Next month, at our midyear meeting, the congregation will vote on changes to our bylaws. The first change would allow new members to vote 30 days after they sign the book, rather than 90 days. The second change revises the section of our bylaws that governs how board members are chosen. I want to remind you about those changes and tell you about the opportunity to discuss them so you can be prepared for the vote. Per our current bylaws, the board chooses the nominating committee and that committee nominates potential new board members. Though the congregation votes to approve the nominees, it isn’t hard to see how this process might inadvertently leave some individuals out of these leadership positions. To remedy this situation, the board approved a change to the bylaws last spring and presented the suggested changes at the annual meeting in June. The new process would require that the nominating committee (composed of 5 members), solicit nominations from the congregation to fill positions on the board and the subsequent nominating committee. I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to ask questions and/or voice concerns about these changes with board members at 11:30am on Sunday, October 29th. If you have questions or concerns about the changes but can’t make the meeting on the 29th, you can email asktheboard@uufcc.com or speak to any board member.

| Sun, Oct 15 - "Now Is The Time" - 10:00 AM with Rev. Jules Taylor
The state of our world, our nation, our lives can feel overwhelming. So much is needed, it is inevitable that overwhelm can lead to shutting down, doing what is necessary for survival. And—as people of faith who recognize the web of all existence, our survival is connected to others’ survival. We can’t wait. |

Sun, Oct 22 - "Leveraging The People's Power" - 10:00 AM with Rev. Tracy Sprowls Our democracy is in peril. Timothy Snyder, the acclaimed historian and author of books like On Tyranny, tells us that one of the primary things the average person can do to keep a democracy strong is commit to an institution. Right when we find ourselves in the midst of a political crisis, membership in congregations and other organizations is dramatically down. Let's talk! |

| UUA Disaster Relief Fund
Climate change has altered and intensified natural disaster across the country and the globe. Unsurprisingly, requests for grants from the UUA’s Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) have increased significantly too. This year so far, the DRF has granted over $275,000, the highest amount in a single year for the last five years - and we still have three more months to go in 2023. We try to keep at least $100,000 on hand for emergency use, but right now, the fund balance is down to just about $30,000. We request your help to replenish this important fund. Please consider a gift to the Disaster Relief Fund today. If your congregation has a special collection program, I invite you to advocate for an annual collection benefitting UUA Disaster Relief. |
| Centre LGBTQ Fundraiser Please order banned books or new trans clothing to donate to Centre LGBTQ! Monetary donations also accepted. Order banned books here. Trans clothing most needed are new business attire for folks who may not have access to clothing for job interviews, etc. Gift cards to department stores are most helpful (Kohls, TJ Max, Ross, Target, etc.) Thank you! |
